SILENT BREATH Endings
Four ways a night can close — posters, dawn, the bunker phone, and the tapes that finish the story.
SILENT BREATH does not have a single credits roll. A night can end because you collected enough missing people, because the clock hit 5:00 AM, because you answered a bunker telephone, or — after 20 August 2026 — because you found the tape recorders that complete the story the designer had in his head since Early Access. This page is the menu of those finishes. Routes sit in the walkthrough. Object IDs sit in items. Story talk that would spoil the last recorder stays on lore and stays short.
Exodiac Studios’ 1.0 letter is blunt: the journey started in singleplayer and ends there. Multiplayer is a gift layered on later. If this is your first tape, do not open a five-player lobby to “see the ending faster.” Friends scramble microphone discipline and Sister line-of-sight. Read Getting Started and multiplayer in that order.
Poster ending — five missing people
Bodies carry missing-person posters. Pick up five in one night and dawn can break. There are often more than five corpses on the map; veterans have counted around ten. Spawns rebalance in 1.0 so placements feel less spiteful, but death still reshuffles them. That is why a “perfect path” from a 2024 video lies.
Landmarks beat tree memory: chapel, cemetery, church, gas station, carnival, farm, lake, TV house, bus garage, butcher cabin. HUD location names after 1.0 help you confirm you arrived. Compass assist pings undiscovered sites within about 45 metres — useful while hunting posters, dangerous if a Sister is already speaking. See compass and landmarks.
The Steam badge Who Am I? treats this as a valid finish. You can also finish other ways; the overlay does not require posters if dawn or the phone already closed the tape.
Dawn ending — 5:00 AM
Survive until morning. You do not need five posters. You can hide. Community reports that the bus garage (yellow car, back-left corner) blocks a lot of large models. Hiding still accumulates scares for the 50 / 100 badges; it is not a mute button for the forest.
Weather: severe storms used to start at 2:00 AM. Version 1.0 delays them until 4:00 AM so more of the night is usable. If you plan to sit still, sit somewhere you already mapped in daylight. The clock does not freeze in the pause menu.
Time Is Up is dawn without finding all missing people. Hah, Amateur! is dawn without finding anyone. Both are easier if you refuse to loot.
Bunker ending — silver key and ringing phone
This is the secret-feeling finish from Early Access, still in 1.0.
- Find the butcher cabin south-southwest of spawn (gas station south, carnival nearby, blue tents / boat as breadcrumbs).
- Take the silver key from the table. Entering spawns the hunting butcher in a few seconds. Run for roughly two minutes until he drops. Sisters rules still apply if one overlaps the chase.
- The bunker door sits by a sparking electrical tower — community maps disagree on east versus west of the cemetery; 1.0 location names and aligned coordinates settle arguments. Use the HUD, not a Paint screenshot from 2024.
- Unlock (Knock Knock). Run the corridor to a messy table. Wait a few seconds. Answer the black phone (Missed Call).
Patch 0.991E had to restore a missing bunker phone. If your build is current and the phone is absent, verify you are not on an old beta depot. Full steps: How to Find the Bunker.
True ending — tape recorders (1.0)
Official notes: the True Ending has been added. Find and listen to recordings scattered through the forest to uncover why you were sent. New tape recorders sit on the map. Two Steam achievements shipped with that story. This wiki will not paste the dialogue. Play it once in singleplayer with the microphone disciplined, then read lore if you want structure without a transcript.
Tapes are easy to skip if you only sprint posters. Slow down at interiors, look at tables, listen. Compass assist will not label “plot.” Flashlight range is better in 1.0, which helps reading props at dusk, but the new light-hating threat means you cannot treat the beam as a toy. Threats and settings cover light and accessibility if the redesigned fisheye or camera tilt makes you miss props.
Hiker Footage is not supposed to spawn scares; 1.0 fixed cases where some still appeared. Do not farm story tapes in a mode that was meant to be a walk.
Which ending to chase tonight
- First clear: posters or dawn. Learn the rose of landmarks.
- Second session: cabin, key, bunker phone.
- After you can freeze for Armless and look away from Shy: tapes.
- Co-op: only after a solo finish, per the 1.0 letter.
Basic-ending house streaming had a 1.0 bug (house appearing after teleport) that was fixed. If a credits house pops late, update. For the honest “is it worth $10” take, review. For patch context, version 1.0 and 1.01A.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
How many endings does SILENT BREATH have?
Four practical finishes: five posters, survive to 5:00 AM, bunker telephone, and the 1.0 tape true ending. Steam treats several of them as ‘finish the game.’
Do I need the bunker for the true ending?
Official 1.0 text ties the true ending to listening to recordings, not to the phone. Do the bunker for Knock Knock / Missed Call; do tapes for the story close.
Can I see the true ending in co-op?
The developer said the story ends in singleplayer and new players should start there. Co-op is extra. Do not use friends as a skip.
When does the storm start?
Version 1.0 moved severe weather from 2:00 AM to 4:00 AM. Dawn is still 5:00 AM.
